Weekend Snapshots // Tail of the Dragon

This past weekend, I accompanied my boyfriend Dan and a few friends to North Carolina for the ‘Unofficial’ TougeFest at US 129, more notably, the Tail of the Dragon. I’ve mentioned before that I spend a lot of time around cars. TougeFest in a nutshell was a weekend of beautiful and scenic mountain drives and “spirited driving.”

We stayed at the Fontana Village Resort in North Carolina, but the Tail actually runs through both North Carolina and Tennessee. While we had been concerned about the possibility of snow, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Skies were clear all weekend, and we layered up for the variation in temperatures from morning to evening.

During the weekend, we met a couple other drivers and ended up spending most of Saturday driving up and down the mountain roads with them.

We took a little break for pit stops and admiring the scenery and found signal in the middle of nowhere. Of course, I took the opportunity to check my phone for a few emails. Oops!

Just for fun — here’s three minutes of the last drive down US 129 condensed to 30 seconds. Taken with Hyperlapse. This was only a part of the 11 mile stretch containing 318 turns.
